In 2005, the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion launched a $5 million 150th Anniversary Campaign to restore and maintain Baltimore's most magnificent historic home. Today, the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion continues to provide a remarkable historic window to Baltimore's past, revealing otherwise forgotten worlds to its present-day visitors. To enter the Mansion is to step back in time. The interior remains as it was in the 1880s with elegant rooms flowing into one another through marble hallways and elaborately carved doorways. But many areas of the Mansion are unavailable for public use or are badly in need of refurbishment. This campaign will restore the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion to its original grandeur while taking it into the future, enabling even more visitors, tourists, preservationists, and students to immerse themselves in Baltimore's history.

Plans call for making the Mansion functional and accessible for public use and skillfully adapting the building to generate revenues for future preservation and maintenance. Throughout these renovations, scrupulous care will be taken to maintain the architectural and historical character of the building.

The restoration of the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion will feature:
  • Enclosure of the courtyard to create an atrium.

  • Restoration of the historic Drawing Room, Heritage Room, Theater, Entry and Lobby, Caen Stone (Marble) Hall and Library on the main level and the public hallways on the lower level.

  • Completion of the restoration of the West Mt. Vernon Place exterior front façade.

  • Accommodation of persons with disabilities with public accessibility into and through the Mansion.

  • Addition of an elevator to link all of the floors for public access and service.

  • Enhancement of the mechanical and electrical system and installation of new central security and sound systems, as well as fire and smoke detection and alarm systems.
